The first workshop of this school year took place in October 15-22 in Iceland where our three teachers Mgr. Cvrčková, Nacková a Vajdečková took part. Like last year, we liked all our stay there very much. We also met our colleagues from Italy and Germany. This year’s workshop was really different from the last one as we could visit the lessons and make sure that our theoretical knowledge from last year is right. Education is really based not only on the mutual respect between teachers and students but also on the natural interest of the students to learn and know more. We could see lessons of English, math and also elementary lessons.
The students of the school prepared a show which theme corresponded with our main topic so we had a chance to hear typical Icelandic music, folk songs and some students played play musical instruments. One of the most impressing was a rock group whose songs are not only interpreted by students but also composed. We also saw two theatrical performances, one played by professionals, one by pupils. This was a classical Icelandic fairy tale where the scenes and also puppets were made by the pupils, which very nice and touching.
Other workshops were planned. In December we will meet in Geithain, the meeting in Italy will be in April and in May we will be the hosts to the final workshop. The final product of this school year will be postcards, ballpens and a book about the roots of music in each country.
