First international meeting

The first meeting of the second year of our project Socrates took place in Iceland in the week of 9 October-17 October 2004. Three of our teachers, Mrs Cvrckova, Mrs Nackova and Mrs Vavrouskova, could go there thanks to the grant of Socrates.

They enjoyed their stay very much and they found out a few interesting things about Iceland:

Iceland is a beautiful and amazing country and Icelanders are nice and art loving people. Although they have to live in hard climatic conditions, they are full of life optimism and enthusiasm. Iceland is a country without a great impact of Europian consumer society and they are rightly happy for it. Icelanders are very proud of their history, cultural heritage, their ancestors and they také extreme care of old people.

The visit of the partner school was a big experience for all the teachers. Icelandic students call teachers and even the headmaster by names. However, it does not mean there is no mutual respect and hard will to understand each other. The philosophy of teaching process is included in the moto: Discipline- Comfort- Results. The school is well equipped with high technology and decorated by children´s works. The main goal of the teachers is to educate individuals.

On Tuesday, 12 Ocober there was the workshop where the coming year of the project was discussed. The new topic had already been chosen in Italy, in May, however, it needed to be specified. All the teachers agreed that the second year will be mostly focused on football and dancing.

There was also time for seeing fantastic Icelandic nature. Thanks to amazingly nice and willing „team“ of the headmaster Petur Ori and his vice Thorunn Kristinsdóttir we could see all the extraordinary and wonderful qualities of Icelandic nature and countryside: extinct and active volcanoes, flooded craters, thermal springs, glaciers, waterfalls and other „curiosities“ of this unforgattable island.
